April Ross

April Ross is only one of only a handful of beach volleyball athletes to win medals at least twice in an Olympics. Alix-Klineman will be competing with Ross at Tokyo to win her third gold medal in the next couple of days. But more than that, Ross is aiming to capture her very first Olympic gold. Since she's 39 years old she could have her last shot. Her optimism is that she will be able to win top awards. Ross through NBC Boston, said that when the team performs well or at all they can earn a gold. In addition, I'll try some luck. Ross was born on August 22, 1982, at Costa Mesa California. She resided there with her family. Ross played in numerous sports while attending Newport Harbor High School. Along with the indoor game, she also ran track and basketball in her pre-college days. Though she excelled in indoor volleyball but it was apparent that her skills were above normal. As a college volleyball season in her university bio, she was an outside-hitter, middle blocker and setter. In recognition of her accomplishments she was awarded the Gatorade Award for National Player 1999. In 2000, she was recognized as the Orange County Athlete of the Yr for volleyball. Ross is working with Klineman from 2017 but her beach game was established well before this. In fact, she won multiple major tournaments with two different partners, one of whom is the volleyball legend. In the period 2007 to 2013 she teamed alongside Jennifer Kessy who more recently was Klineman's coach. Together with Kessy, Ross won a World Title in 2009 while competing on the international circuit. The 2012 Olympic Games, they were awarded a gold medal. They were beaten out for the gold medal by the legendary duo comprising Misty and Kerri Walsh (Jennings). Ross Jennings was the replacement for May-Treanor as she announced her retirement. They won the beach volleyball bronze at the Rio Olympics in 2016. Ross competed for USC Trojans in her college the years prior to her professional career. The time she spent at USC was an impressive one. In her first year at the school, 2000 saw her earn the Pac-10 as well as NCAA Freshman's of the Award and also be named an All-American. Her Trojans made it to the Final Four. The Trojans suffered a heartbreaking personal loss in her sophomore season, but she still repeated her place as an All-American. Over the course of the two years she played for the Trojans they helped achieve consecutive championships. The achievements of each individual have established her as a volleyball legend. She was awarded the Honda Sports Award 2003-04 for the best female college player. Ross had been an international studies major at USC. Margie Ross wasn't able to watch her daughter's climb to fame as a beach volleyball player. Ross's mother passed away from breast cancer when she was a sophomore in USC. She still holds her mother very dearly. Margie at the beach and in daily life, is still a source of inspiration for her.
